What is the GPO?

Students are given a copy of this document at their lease-signing and sign that they will follow the provisions. Students are expected to read and follow all items discussed and share this information with family or roommates.
In instances where a lease violation is found, the leaseholder will be notified of the violation and any forthcoming fines applied to their account. The most common lease violations are found during semesterly apartment/room inspections.
Graduate students who wish to appeal the cost of a lease violation must submit the proper form do so within 7 days of notification. Most confiscated items will be held until the student graduates.

Changes for 2025-26 GPO
  • PROHIBITED ITEMS: ...Bidets can be installed by occupant in personal bathrooms, but must use sink as the water source for installation. Occupant assumes responsibility for damage as a result of installation. 
  • SURVEILLANCE, CAMERA, AND ALARM SYSTEMS: The use of surveillance, camera, or alarm systems (including, but not limited to, Ring Doorbell, Google Nest, door alarms, etc.) or other equipment in any common areas, including hallways and restrooms, bedrooms, or on the exterior of any building is prohibited.
Changes 2024-25 GPO
  • CLEANLINESS: Occupant is expected to keep all areas of buildings, especially kitchens, bathrooms, lounges and corridors, in satisfactory condition, as determined by Housing Services or other agents of the University Housing Services will perform regular inspections of apartments to ensure that the Occupant’s space is clean. Cleanliness standards apply to University property and any Occupant property that may impact the health and safety of the Occupant or other residents. Apartments and rooms must be returned to their original condition at the end of the Occupancy Term. Special cleaning required due to Occupant's carelessness will be billed to the Occupant(s). Occupant(s) should refer to the cleaning guidelines posted online and in each building for more information. Housing Services reserves the right to issue a lease violation to any Occupant who fails to abide by these guidelines.
    • BATHROOMS: Occupant(s) must follow posted guidelines to prevent the growth of mold or the accumulation of other material in their personal bathrooms, including around the tub, shower, shower curtain, toilet, and sink. This includes the maintenance of any University property or Occupant property in the bathroom to a satisfactory condition as determined by Housing Services. 
    • KITCHENS: Personal kitchen areas must be maintained to prevent the accumulation of food waste, grease, and other garbage that may pose a hazard to Occupant(s) or other residents health and safety. This includes the maintenance of any University property or Occupant property in the kitchen to a satisfactory condition as determined by Housing Services.
