Semester Break (Thursday 12/21/2023 9:00 AM - Saturday 1/20/2024 9:00 AM)

Undergraduate university housing at 9 am on Thursday, December 21, 2023 and will not reopen until 9 am on Saturday, January 20, 2024. However, we do recognize that there are certain groups and individuals who may need housing during the break. If you fall under one of the categories below and are in need of housing for any portion of the break, we ask that you follow the directions below based on your circumstance: If a request is needed, the deadline is Sunday, December 10, 2023.

International Students: Please fill out the "Semester Break Housing Request" located under "Applications" on your Housing Self Service Page by Sunday, December 10, 2023. Per University safety protocol, each building must have a minimum number of residents signed up to stay, in order for the building to be open for the break. If your building does not have a minimum number of students signed up to stay you will be asked to relocate. Please note that there are very few University resources available during the break and there is no active meal plan. You will be notified during the week of December 11, 2023 of the status of your request.

NCAA In-Season Athletes: You do not need to fill out the "Semester Break Housing Request". Athletics will submit the dates you need to be on campus and you will get a confirmation from our office the week of December 11, 2023. Per University safety protocol, each building must have a minimum number of residents signed up to stay in order for the building to be open for the break. If your building does not have a minimum number of students signed up to stay you will be asked to relocate.

Extreme Travel Issues and Other Extenuating Circumstances: Please fill out the "Semester Break Housing Request" located under "Applications" on your Housing Self Service Page by Sunday, December 10, 2023. It is important to note that this is a request and there is no guarantee that this request will be granted. The validity of your circumstance will be evaluated. Also, per University safety protocol, each building must have a minimum number of residents signed up to stay, in order for the building to be open for the break. If your building does not have a minimum number of students signed up to stay you will be asked to relocate. Please note that there are very few University resources available during the break and there is no active meal plan. Staying on campus during the break should be an absolute last resort and every effort should be made to leave campus for the break. You will be notified during the week of December 11, 2023 as to the status of your request.

Sorority Recruitment Participants: You do not need to fill out the "Semester Break Housing Request." The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs will send our office the list of those participating in Sorority Recruitment. Those participating in Sorority Recruitment are permitted to return to Campus starting at 9 am on Sunday, January 14, 2024. More information about Sorority Recruitment can be found HERE.

Sorority Members: You do not need to fill out the "Semester Break Housing Request." All Panhellenic members can return to campus starting at 9 am on Sunday, January 14, 2024.


 

What do I need to know if I am staying on campus?

Please note that there are very few University resources available during the break.
The Fall semester meal plan ends December 20, 2023 after lunch and the Spring semester meal plan will resume for dinner on January 20, 2024.  Over semester break students may purchase a university meal plan to be used at Rathbone Hall from January 3rd through January 19th. Click here for more information regarding this meal plan. Deadline to sign up for this meal plan is December 20, 2023.

The only other retail location that will be open over semester break will be Common Grounds in Rauch Business Center.  Click here for hours of operation.

The Offices of Housing Services, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, and Residence Life hours during break are 8:15 AM - 4:45 PM, Monday - Friday except for the following days when the offices are closed to observe university holidays: Monday, December 25th, Tuesday, December 26th, and Monday, January 1st.


When you check out from Break Housing (or if you leave campus for several days)

Student Property: Safekeeping of personal property is your responsibility. Please be sure to take valuables home with you and if you cannot please be sure to secure them out of sight. Lehigh University is not responsible for the theft of damage of student personal property at any time including periods when residential facilities are closed for academic breaks.
Parking: Students with cars on campus will receive an email from Parking Services in regards to where they should park their car over Semester Break. Please contact Parking Services at 610-758-3893 for specific questions.
Before you leave:

1. Remove holiday decorations

2. Unplug all electrical outlets

3. Unplug refrigerator/microfridge in personal bedrooms, remove perishable food, leave refrigerator door open. In Trembley Park, Sayre Park, and Farrington Square as well as in traditional residence hall rooms equipped with a kitchenette: remove perishable food, do not unplug kitchen refrigerator or leave door open.

4. Remove or secure valuable items

5. Clean up your living area

  • If you have a vacancy in your room, make sure your belongings are on your side of the room and the room is clean.
  1. If you have a vacancy in your apartment, make sure the common areas are clean.

6.Empty trash containers

7. Close and lock all windows, pull shades/blinds half way down

8. Turn lights off

9. Lock the door

 

Spring Break (Saturday 3/9/2024 9:00 AM - Saturday 3/16/2024 9:00 AM)

Spring Break is just a few short weeks away. We will close all undergraduate university housing at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16th. However, we do recognize that there are certain groups and individuals who may need housing during the break. If you are in need of housing for any portion of Spring Break, we ask that you follow the directions below based on your circumstance:

International Students: Please fill out the "Undergraduate Spring Break Stay Request" located under "Applications" on your Housing Self Service Page by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 1st, 2024. Per University safety protocol, each building must have a minimum number of residents signed up to stay, in order for the building to be open for the break. If your building does not have a minimum number of students signed up to stay you will be asked to relocate. You will be notified on Monday, March 4, 2024 of the status of your request.

Dining: There is no active meal plan. The meal plan ends March 8, 2024 after dinner and does not resume until 4:30 PM on Sunday, March 16, 2024. 
Opportunities for retail purchases for Dining will exist on a limited basis

Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday 11/22/2023 - Sunday 11/26/2023)

Residential buildings are open over Thanksgiving Break. Students remaining on campus must register on-line with Housing Services by 8 AM on Monday, November 13, 2023. Please refer to the information in the What do I need to know if I am staying on campus? section below for Dining information during this break.


What do I need to know if I am staying on campus?
Dining-Students staying on campus during Thanksgiving Break are advised to plan meals ahead as all on-campus dining locations will be closed Wednesday, 11/22 - Saturday, 11/25. 
Opportunities for retail purchases for Dining will exist on a limited. basis.


What do I need to know if I am leaving campus?

Residents Are Reminded To Do The Following Before Departing:

  • Valuables should be taken home or put away out of view.
  • Throw out any perishable food.
  • Empty trash containers.
  • Close and lock windows, turn lights off and lock the door.
