Check Out Instructions 2026

Step 1: Indicate Your Check-Out Date

Complete the Spring 2026 Check-Out Google Form indicating your Check-Out Date. The form is due by May 1st, 2026.

Residents who are not able to leave campus by 9 AM on Thursday, May 14th for any reason MUST sign up for Senior, Summer or Temporary Housing. Residents who sign up for Senior, Summer, or Temporary Housing must still complete the form and check off that they have signed up for housing post-closing.

Step 2: Pack Your Belongings and Clean Your Space

Closing information for Residence Hall students can also be found on the bulletin boards in their buildings. 

Closing Checklist

  • Remove posters, tacks, nails, hooks, and tape/adhesive stickers from doors, woodwork, walls, ceilings, windows, and furniture. Only authorized University employees and contractors are permitted to do any maintenance repairs.
  • Clear bedroom and furniture of all personal property. Housing Services is not responsible for any personal items left in rooms. Personal property will be discarded at your cost.
  • Be sure all University room furnishings are present, reassembled, in good condition, and returned to their original placement.
  • Take all trash and recycling to dumpsters outside the building. Trash bags are available from custodial staff in your building. Be sure to leave your blue University recycling bin clean and in your room.
  • Sweep and vacuum floor and carpet.

Step 3: Return Your Keys

All keys must be returned by 9 AM on Thursday, May 14th, 2026 unless you have been approved for Senior, Summer, or Temporary Housing and plan to remain on campus.

Place your keys in one of the provided envelopes any drop location. Write your name, building, and room number on the envelope. SEAL the envelope using tape or by activating the glue before placing it in the drop box. If keys are lost because your envelope is not properly sealed, you will be charged from a lock change.

  • Housing Services Office: 8:15 AM - 4:45 PM M-F. Located beneath Rathbone Dining Hall
  • IDEAL Office: Drop box outside available 24/7 (42 University Drive)
  • LUPD Station: Drop box inside available 24/7 (321 East Packer Ave.

Students approved for Senior housing must return keys by 9 PM on Sunday, May 17th, 2026.

Students approved for Summer and Temporary Housing will be given instructions to return their Spring keys to the same locations within 24 hours of moving.
